HMS plays a key role as gatekeeper when needs extend beyond the scope of HMS offerings, assuring quality, continuity of care and cost containment.  This role is advantageous for companies because it saves time, money, and keeps employees healthier on and off the job.

HMS counselors always consider the client's best interest and it is not uncommon to seek longer term counseling or additional specialized services beyond the scope of HMS.  When individuals find themselves outside of the scope of HMS provisions, HMS assumes the role of gatekeeper ensuring individuals receive appropriate treatment for the primary problem. 

HMS coordinates employee care with credentialed referral resources.  Prior to such referrals, HMS reviews with its client their particular insurance benefits package and educates them on their in-network options.  HMS then serves as case manager for all clients referred to outpatient treatment, hospital admissions and follow-up care, tracking the progress of individuals and making sure they are not in treatment for unusually long periods of time.
